Abu Dhabi Health Regulator Begins AI Sleep Apnoea Study With Eight Sleep
The 12-week clinical study gives Abu Dhabi another route to turn population health data and consumer devices into preventive care infrastructure.
The Department of Health Abu Dhabi and Eight Sleep have agreed to study how AI-powered sleep technology could help manage sleep apnoea, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said. The partnership will begin with a first-of-its-kind clinical study in Abu Dhabi connecting real-world data from Eight Sleep's technology with the emirate's population health data.
The 12-week study will focus on sleep apnoea and examine how smart bed technology, including real-time adjustments to body position, may improve management of the condition. Eight Sleep's technology will capture continuous sleep and physiological signals including heart rate, breathing rate, movement, snoring and positional data, with researchers analysing those signals alongside relevant clinical, genomic and lifestyle data in Abu Dhabi's intelligent health system.
Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City will conduct the study with governance and data protection protocols. DoH Undersecretary Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi said the collaboration would help generate real-world evidence from consumer sleep technology and integrate it with Abu Dhabi's health intelligence infrastructure to inform personalised care pathways.
