UAE Minister Says AI Is Drawing More Investment Than Any Sector in National History

The Make it in the Emirates remarks place artificial intelligence at the centre of the country's industrial capital agenda, with data centres alone described as requiring hundreds of billions of dollars.

Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, said artificial intelligence is attracting more investment than any other sector in UAE history and is growing fast, Economy Middle East reported from Make it in the Emirates 2026. Alsuwaidi called for greater recognition of domestic investors in industrial growth and framed the capital agenda as domestic direct investment rather than foreign direct investment.

Alsuwaidi said the scale of AI-driven projects is unlike anything the country has seen before, adding that data centres alone cost more than a port or an airport and involve hundreds of billions of dollars. The discussion also put AI adoption into industrial operations, with ADNOC Upstream chief executive Musabbeh Al Kaabi saying AI had cut shutdown times by almost 50 percent.

The session linked AI capital, industrial technology adoption and investor enablement, including the Ministry of Investment's launch of Atlas, a geospatial platform designed to turn data into investment insights across the seven emirates. Maitha Al Suwaidi of Microsoft said the UAE ranks first globally for AI adoption, with 64 percent of the working-age population using generative AI tools.
