MGX Board Reviews OpenAI and Isomorphic Investments Across Expanding AI Portfolio

Abu Dhabi's national AI investment company is widening its exposure from frontier models to drug discovery and infrastructure as contracted capacity in its portfolio moves toward 8 gigawatts.

H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of MGX, chaired the company's second board meeting of 2026, reviewing new investments and performance across a portfolio that Abu Dhabi Media Office said continues to expand across the AI tech stack.

The board reviewed MGX's participation as co-lead in OpenAI's latest $122 billion funding round, its fifth follow-on investment in the company, and its participation in Isomorphic Labs' $2.1 billion Series B round, MGX's first move into AI-enabled drug discovery. The board also reviewed contracted capacity by MGX portfolio companies, which is projected to exceed 8 gigawatts by the end of 2026.

Ahmed Yahia Al Idrissi, chief executive officer and managing director of MGX, said the firm continues to invest across frontier models, platforms and the infrastructure required to scale them globally. The meeting was also attended by Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Peng Xiao and Martin Edelman.

UAE Foreign Trade Ministry Taps Presight to Build AI Platform

The Ministry of Foreign Trade signed an agreement with Presight, the Abu Dhabi-based G42 company, to build the Ministry of Foreign Trade AI Platform, a suite of AI-powered trade tools intended to support faster foreign trade and embed AI across the ministry's core functions.
