ADIB Names Chief AI Officer To Scale Vision 2035 Programme

The appointment gives the UAE banking sector another formal executive mandate for enterprise AI deployment, governance and internal capability building.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank has appointed Pedro Uria-Recio as chief AI officer, a new leadership role tied to the bank's Vision 2035 strategy, FF News reported. The mandate covers responsible AI deployment across the group, with a focus on customer experience, risk management, operational efficiency and staff tools.

The bank said more than 94 per cent of its transactions are conducted through digital channels, that it serves more than 2.7 million customers, and that it added 125,000 customers in the first half of 2026. Mohamed Abdelbary, group chief executive of ADIB, said artificial intelligence is one of the principal transformation enablers of the bank's strategy and its ambition to become the world's most innovative Islamic bank.

Uria-Recio joins from CIMB Bank in Malaysia, where he served as chief data and artificial intelligence officer and led generative AI, agentic AI and advanced analytics work across Southeast Asia. For AI vendors, the signal is direct: ADIB is turning AI from a digital experiment into a named leadership function with governance, infrastructure and scale responsibilities.

Arabic AI

UAE Researchers Build Benchmark For AI Across 13 Arab Dialects

UAE researchers have developed what Gulf News described as the first benchmark for artificial intelligence across 13 Arab dialects, adding a language-infrastructure milestone to the country's AI research agenda.

The benchmark is a capability signal rather than a procurement announcement, but it matters for adoption in government, education, banking and customer service. Arabic AI systems that understand regional dialects can move more reliably from pilots into services used by citizens, residents and enterprise customers.

SME Adoption

du Business Plans AI Upgrade For 10,000 UAE SMEs

du Business is planning an artificial intelligence upgrade for 10,000 UAE small and medium-sized enterprises, Gulf Business reported, giving the private-sector adoption cycle a measurable buyer base.

The scale makes the item more than a general technology-awareness campaign. SME AI programmes create demand for training, packaged automation, integration support and managed services that can be delivered through telecom and business-service channels.

Hub71 Maps AI Founders Into Stage-Based Abu Dhabi Pathways

Hub71 has set out how startups should choose between its Initiate, Access and Sandbox programmes, and said Hub71+ AI is a cross-vertical ecosystem for startups building AI technologies or applying AI across sectors.

The guidance positions Abu Dhabi's startup platform as a staged route from idea validation to market entry and regulated deployment. For AI founders, the practical signal is that Hub71 is linking AI ventures not only to capital and partners, but also to regulatory testing through the Sandbox pathway when market-ready products need validation before commercial deployment.

FAB Hosts Second SpeakEasy Forum On Enterprise AI Adoption

First Abu Dhabi Bank hosted its second SpeakEasy forum to drive enterprise AI adoption in the UAE, FF News reported, adding another banking-sector signal that large institutions are moving AI discussion into operating forums.

The item does not disclose a new capital commitment, but it strengthens the buyer-side narrative around enterprise AI. For consultancies and platform vendors, a second forum points to continuing demand for governance, implementation, use-case selection and change management around AI in financial services.
