Abu Dhabi Plans $81.7 Billion Power And Water Buildout As AI Demand Grows
The investment programme places energy resilience and ready power capacity at the centre of Abu Dhabi’s pitch for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Abu Dhabi is planning investments exceeding Dh300 billion, or $81.7 billion, in power and water systems over the coming decades, Abdulaziz Al Obaidli, Director General of Regulatory Affairs at the UAE Department of Energy, said at the Hili Forum. He said billions of dollars in foreign investment are expected annually.
Al Obaidli said the programme will cover generation, networks, storage and digital systems designed to anticipate disruption, maintain continuity and recover quickly. He also said the UAE can make power available before data infrastructure is built, an advantage he linked to investments by OpenAI, Oracle and G42 under the UAE Stargate project.
