UAE-Backed Consortium Commits $1 Billion to AI Satellite Network
The Altair Next Gen investment places Abu Dhabi manufacturing at the centre of a fifty-satellite network intended to serve Emirati, European and commercial users.
Marlan Space, the UAE-based space technology investor and an IHC subsidiary, and Loft Orbital are leading a $1 billion consortium investment to build Altair Next Gen, an artificial intelligence satellite infrastructure. The agreement was signed at the International Space Summit in Paris in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The initial phase comprises fifty satellites with radar, optical and other sensors for government, commercial and sovereign customers, including users in the UAE. The network is intended to analyse observations in orbit and transmit alerts rather than raw imagery, with maritime awareness, wildfire detection, disaster response, ports and critical infrastructure among its first applications.
Orbitworks will produce the satellites at its facility in KEZAD, Abu Dhabi, giving the programme capacity to scale from ten satellites to fifty. IHC agreed to acquire an 80 percent stake in Marlan Space on 8 September, according to WAM.
