UAE Business AI Adoption Jumps to 72 Per Cent as AWS Lifts Cloud Commitment to $5.47 Billion

A joint study by the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and Amazon Web Services records a 19-percentage-point rise in enterprise adoption in a year, with the cloud provider tying its regional spending to sovereign controls, local skills and startup funding.

Artificial intelligence adoption among businesses in the United Arab Emirates has risen to 72 per cent from 53 per cent a year earlier, according to joint research released on 30 September by the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and Amazon Web Services. The report, Unlocking the UAE's AI Potential 2026, was developed by the research firm Strand Partners and records 36 per cent year-on-year growth in enterprise adoption, placing the Emirates among the fastest-growing AI markets in the world.

Amazon Web Services said it is investing up to AED 20.1 billion, or $5.47 billion, in the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region through 2037, an outlay the company estimates will contribute AED 41 billion, or $11.16 billion, to national gross domestic product. The company said it is backing sovereign capabilities through a $1 billion investment with e&, and that the two organisations have launched the AWS UAE Sovereign Launchpad, endorsed by the UAE Cybersecurity Council. The provider also said it is training local talent through its AI Nation programme, which aims to reach 30,000 people across the country.

The study found that 85 per cent of businesses adopting artificial intelligence report a faster pace of digital change, and it sets out four priorities for sustaining momentum: responsible adoption on secure and scalable cloud infrastructure, regulation that enables rather than slows innovation, action on skills shortages, and wider access to funding for AI-first startups and small and medium-sized enterprises. Dr Abdelrahman Al Mahmoud, a director at the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office, said the country's focus was on creating the right environment for organisations to innovate and scale, adding that the 72 per cent figure reflected a model built on turning ambition into action.

Microsoft, UAE Cyber Security Council and Core42 to Deploy AI Code-Security Platform Across Government

Microsoft, the UAE Cyber Security Council and Core42, a G42 company, announced plans on 30 September to deploy MDASH, Microsoft's AI-powered cybersecurity capability, across UAE government entities. The collaboration is intended to strengthen national cyber resilience, accelerate secure digital transformation and help government security teams identify vulnerabilities and prioritise risks at speed and scale.

Under the arrangement, the Cyber Security Council will support government adoption and responsible use of artificial intelligence for cybersecurity through the UAE's National AI Test and Validation Lab, while Core42 will provide onboarding, implementation and capacity-building support through its Sovereign Public Cloud offering, developed in partnership with Microsoft. Microsoft will supply technical expertise, onboarding and implementation guidance to participating entities. H.E. Dr Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government, said securing the code that underpins government and critical services must be built in from the outset. The parties plan a phased rollout beginning with awareness sessions, pilots, technical workshops and onboarding.

Dubai Rolls Out AI Driving Tests That Remove Human Input From Results

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has introduced the next generation of its Smart Test System for light-vehicle yard tests, using artificial intelligence, computer vision and advanced data analytics to assess learner drivers without human intervention in calculating results. The system monitors manoeuvres in real time against standardised criteria and verifies learner identity through facial recognition.

The authority said enhanced vehicle tracking using Real-Time Kinematic positioning delivers accuracy of up to two centimetres, helping detect errors involving vehicle paths and parking positions. The system also monitors safety requirements including mirror and blind-spot checks and hand positioning on the steering wheel, and incorporates AI-powered collision avoidance and preventive automatic emergency braking. Learners will be able to replay their test journey and see where major or minor errors were recorded.
