UAE Puts Domestic Capital at the Heart of Its AI Investment Push

The Ministry of Investment arrives at Ai Everything Abu Dhabi with a message that the country's next phase of AI growth will be financed as much by sovereign and family capital at home as by foreign money.

The UAE Ministry of Investment is taking its case to Ai Everything Abu Dhabi, the summit running from 6 to 7 October at the ADNEC Centre, where it will argue that the country's artificial intelligence build-out is increasingly financed from within. Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, the Minister of Investment, said the ambition is not simply to attract investment but to build and scale more AI companies in the UAE, to spread AI applications across sectors, to deepen local capabilities and to create high-value jobs.

Central to that strategy is domestic direct investment alongside foreign direct investment. The ministry estimates the UAE's domestic direct investment at between $100 billion and $119 billion, roughly two to two and a half times annual foreign direct investment inflows, with sovereign funds, family offices and private enterprises investing alongside international capital. Abu Dhabi Global Market is investing more than AED400 million through 2029 to expand its AI capabilities, strengthen digital infrastructure and modernise regulatory and operational systems, and its asset management ecosystem now counts 190 fund and asset managers overseeing 276 funds.

The two-day event, organised by inD with the Department of Government Enablement as host partner and Solutions+, a Mubadala company, as global partner, is expected to convene more than 400 AI companies and start-ups, more than 50 government entities, 20 or more unicorns, and more than 200 investors managing $100 billion in assets. Genesis AI, an investment advisory company based in Cairo and Dubai, will use the show to unveil an AI-powered product called Financial ID.

Abu Dhabi Signs Siemens to Build AI Into Its Roads, Drainage and Transport

Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport has signed a strategic partnership with Siemens to develop digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence applications and intelligent transport systems across the emirate. The agreement, signed during the Liveability and Investment Exhibition, sets out a framework for co-operation in municipal data and analytics, utilities and infrastructure, and intelligent mobility.

The two organisations will apply data, artificial intelligence and digital technologies to decision-making and service delivery, and will exchange expertise and best practice across municipal sectors. A further area of co-operation covers AI-enabled stormwater and flood prediction, aimed at improving preparedness in priority drainage areas during severe weather. The agreement was signed by Adel Abdulla Albreiki, acting undersecretary of the department, and Rohit Kumar, chief executive of Siemens Advanta for the Middle East and India.

Mubadala Brings Open-Source AI Cloud Together Into Abu Dhabi

Mubadala Investment Company has struck a strategic partnership with the United States AI cloud company Together AI to explore artificial intelligence infrastructure and ecosystem opportunities in the UAE. Under the tie-up, Together AI will establish a local presence in Abu Dhabi, placing its inference and research capabilities closer to developers building AI applications across the country and the wider region.

The partnership follows Mubadala's $100 million participation in Together AI's Series C funding round in July and supports the UAE's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. Vipul Ved Prakash, founder and chief executive of the San Francisco company, which was founded in 2022 and powers more than a million developers, said demand for open-source AI is outpacing the compute available to serve it, and that Mubadala is the kind of partner that helps it scale infrastructure at speed.

Mubadala Leads Gulf Sovereign Funds as AI Takes Almost a Third of Their Deals

Mubadala was the most active sovereign investor in the Middle East and North Africa in the first nine months of 2026, deploying $26.2 billion, according to Global SWF's Mena Playbook. The total includes capital committed by its subsidiaries Adic, Mubadala Capital and MGX, which took part in the multi-billion-dollar financing rounds of OpenAI, Anthropic and Databricks.

Mena sovereign investors deployed $102 billion across 245 transactions in the period to 30 September, 39 per cent of all state-owned investor dealmaking globally. Technology, including artificial intelligence-related rounds, was the most popular sector, at 28 per cent of deals by volume and almost 30 per cent by value. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund followed Mubadala with $14 billion, ahead of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority on $12.2 billion, L'imad on $10.8 billion and the Qatar Investment Authority on $10.3 billion.

UAE Launches Its First Home-Built Commercial AI Satellite

Altair-1, the first commercial satellite built in the UAE, launched aboard SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California and has deployed and acquired a signal ahead of commissioning. It is the first of ten spacecraft forming the Altair constellation, described as the UAE's first commercial, AI-enabled Earth observation network.

The satellite was designed, assembled, integrated and tested at Orbitworks' 50,000-square-foot facility in Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi, inaugurated in November 2025 as the first of its kind in the Middle East for commercial satellite production. Each Altair satellite carries five sensors, covering optical, shortwave infrared, thermal, hyperspectral and radio frequency bands, with onboard Nvidia processors turning the data into analysis-ready intelligence within minutes. At full strength in 2027 the constellation is designed to revisit any point on Earth roughly every four hours.
