MGX Consortium Closes $40 Billion Aligned Data Centers Acquisition
The Abu Dhabi-backed transaction puts long-term Gulf capital into one of the largest AI-ready digital infrastructure platforms serving the next wave of compute demand.
MGX, the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership and BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners completed the acquisition of 100 percent of Aligned Data Centers from private infrastructure funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management and its co-invest partners, Abu Dhabi Media Office reported.
The transaction represents an enterprise value of approximately $40 billion and stands as one of the largest private investments made to date in digital infrastructure. Aligned operates 51 campuses with more than 6.4 gigawatts of operational and planned capacity across key Tier I digital gateway regions, including Northern Virginia, Chicago, Dallas, Ohio, Phoenix and Salt Lake City, as well as São Paulo, Querétaro and Santiago.
AIP was established to mobilise long-term capital at scale for next-generation AI infrastructure. The consortium has committed an additional $5 billion of growth capital to fund Aligned’s continued expansion and scale-up of AI-ready capacity, while AIP is targeting $30 billion of equity capital with the potential to support up to $100 billion of total investment including debt.
