MGX Consortium Completes $40 Billion Aligned Data Centers Deal
The closing places Abu Dhabi capital inside one of the largest private digital infrastructure investments yet made for the advanced compute capacity needed by artificial intelligence customers.
The Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership, MGX and BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners completed the acquisition of Aligned Data Centers from funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management and co-investors, MGX said. The transaction represents an enterprise value of approximately $40 billion and marks one of the largest private investments made to date in digital infrastructure.
Aligned operates one of the largest and fastest-growing data centre platforms globally, with 51 campuses and more than 6.4 gigawatts of operational and planned capacity across the United States and Latin America. The company will remain headquartered in Dallas and continue under chief executive Andrew Schaap and the existing management team.
AIP was established to mobilise long-term capital for next-generation AI infrastructure. The partnership is targeting $30 billion of equity capital, with the potential to support as much as $100 billion of total investment including debt, and the consortium has committed an additional $5 billion of growth capital to expand Aligned's AI-ready capacity.
